We may only be halfway through 2015, but there have already been many extraordinary fashion moments to note. From exquisitely dressed pop stars to celebrity babies disrupting New York Fashion Week, in the world of fashion, there’s rarely a dull moment. We’re giving you the lowdown on the biggest fashion happenings of 2015 (so far).
1. North West’s Front Row Tantrum
At Kanye West’s Adidas collaborative show at New York Fashion Week in February this year, his wife Kim Kardashian sat front row alongside Beyoncé, Vogue Editor Anna Wintour and Jay Z with her daughter North on her lap. Unfortunately for the self-obsessed rapper-come-designer, his daughter was the one who stole the limelight on the show, after throwing a huge tantrum on her mother’s lap. A stony-faced Anna Wintour tried her best to ignore the wailing toddler, whilst a bemused Beyoncé turned her attention to the show in an effort to ignore her cries. Needless to say, it wasn’t Kanye’s collection that made the tabloid headlines the following day, with North West’s outburst making front page news. Unlucky, Yeezy.
2. Rihanna’s Gigantic Yellow Dress
In a gigantic yellow fur-trimmed cape, Rihanna arrived to the 2015 Met Gala bash in New York City back in May taking up so much room on the red carpet that other guests had to stagger their arrival in order to ensure there was space for them to pose on the red carpet.
Channelling Belle from Beauty and the Beast in the gigantic saffron gown, Rihanna’s choice of outfit was handmade by Chinese designer Guo Pei, fitting for the event’s China: Through the Looking Glass theme. The gigantic circular train on the popstar’s gown became the object of many internet memes that transformed the yellow base into a pizza and even the yellow brick road from the Wizard of Oz.
3. Beyoncé at the Met Gala
You couldn’t move on social media without seeing an image of Beyoncé’s jaw-dropping on the day after the Met Gala in 2015. Reposted millions of times, Queen Bey’s bejewelled Givenchy gown left little to the imagination, with strategically placed embellishments only just keeping the singer’s modesty intact. Beyoncé, however, is well known for her risqué outfits when performing on stage and had spent months with her team perfecting this look, to ensure no wardrobe malfunctions occurred.
4. Kim Kardashian blonde hair
Never one to shy from an opportunity to capture the headlines, Kim Kardashian’s bleached blonde hair change, debuted at Paris Fashion Week, left public opinion divided. Many questioned why the raven-haired beauty would subject her hair to so much damaging bleach, with the reality tv star having to dye her hair three times over the course of three weeks in order to keep her roots at bay. The look was short-lived, however, and the Kardashian was back to brunette after just a matter of a few weeks.
5. Zoolander Valentino catwalk
After a long and tiring day of fashion shows, Paris Fashion Week attendees were soon brought to life at the final Valentino AW15 show in March 2015 when Derek Zoolander and Hansel (Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson respectively) strutted their stuff in a ‘walk-off’ to promote Zoolander 2.
6. Rick Owen’s Menswear Show
At his Paris Fashion Week AW15 show in January this year, Rick Owens gave his show attendees a surprise with strategically placed peep-holes and cut off tunics that left pant-less (and underwear-less) male models flashing their privates on the catwalk. Never one to shy away from nudity and sexuality in his shows, Owens claimed he used nudity as a nod to the artistic and independent world of fashion, away from the “corporate world”.
7. Irina Shayk Vanity Fair
With a body like Russian supermodel Irina Shayk, who wouldn’t want to show it off? The Victoria’s Secret angel posed on the Vanity Fair Oscars party red carpet in a barely there sheer black gown in February this year. Only just about covering half of her body, the model looked very pleased with herself as she posed in the Versace Haute Couture dress.
8. Madonna Giorgio Armani cape BRIT awards
Last but not least is that Madonna BRIT awards performance from March 2015. After tying her bespoke Armani matador cape too tightly around her neck prior to her performance, Madonna was ceremoniously yanked off the stage by her backing dancers as they attempted to dramatically whip the cape off as part of a pre-rehearsed routine. Safe to say, the queen of pop didn’t let that stop her and carried on to give an otherwise great performance.
