They say diamonds are a girl’s best friends.Let’s assume that’s true. If so, what on Earth are we supposed to make of the eight rows of white paved diamonds that bedeck, like common sequins, this Repossi Diamond and Gold 4-Row Berbere Ring? Is this ring “a girl’s best friend times a million, plus 40 to the infinity power”? Perhaps! Even one of these ring tiers, alone, would make for a luxe piece of jewelry. Stack the tiers together like a glittering skyscraper, and you have something that almost defies categorization. Of course, this Repossi creation is priced only slightly less than the (similarly shaped!) large Hadron atom smasher in Geneva. But like the Large Hadron Collider — which recently definitively found the Higgs boson, a.k.a. the “God Particle” — this extravagant ring can create serious fireworks.
This is a good purchase if:
• You did something really, really bad and you really, really want to apologize to the woman you adore (i.e. get her to consider the possibility of giving you a second chance);
• You want to treat yourself after some colossal accomplishment, like selling your company or finally polishing off your dissertation after slaving away for years;
• You’re a collector of jewelry with exquisite taste and a relatively big budget, and you’re passionate about creative jewelry architecture, in particular.
The 18 karat yellow gold bands combined with the glittering rings recall fine pieces from ancient middle-American cultures, like the Aztecs and the Mayans.It’s actually kind of funny. Given an abundance of gold and a limitless creative canvas, jewelry-smiths, like the artisans at Repossi, often accidentally innovate in a way that mirrors the stylings of the great ancient cultures. Perhaps gold and diamonds arrayed as such speak to something quintessential about our nature. We live in a world that’s full of imperfections and, at times, ugliness. Maybe we need to create and lavish ourselves with “beautiful,” “perfect” objects, like this ring, to remember our ultimate innate perfection.
