We had the pleasure of viewing Yigal Azrouel’s Fall 2016 collection which happens to be simply amazing. We also had the pleasure of interviewing Boston’s fashion and style guru, Gretta Monahan, who welcomed fashion designer Yigal Azrouel to her Gretta Luxe boutique in Wellesley (last night) to share a sneak peek at runway looks from his 2016 Fall collection. Everyone loved the sneak peek at Yigal’s Fall presentation, as well as styling tips from the Gretta Luxe team. Enjoy our interview with Gretchen and Yigal. It’s so cold in Boston…we’re ready for his collection right now!
Here’s what Gretchen had to say:
- It looks like wide trouser pants are back for Fall 2016. I also see the cropped pant in Yigal’s Fall 2016 collection. Those are two very different looks. Which look is more figure flattering? Can everyone wear both looks?
Yes, opposites attract when it comes to bottoms this season, everyone can wear a version of these trends if they keep their proportions in check. For instance, cropped pants are great for petite women only if they’re fitted and tailored. Tall girls can wear a super wide leg version, which is why I love Yigal because he is an expert on creating the most flattering fashion for all women.
- I love the colors Yigal is working with for fall….bright blue, black, and red? Gretta, will those be big colors this fall?
Yes, these bold colors are huge for fall. You’re going to see a lot of red. It was all over the runway, and I love Yigal’s interpretation of his unique red, black, blue, light bright blue. Very very bold hues are the way to go modern and be on trend this fall.
- Will lace continue to be popular for fall?
Lace is still a big player when it comes to fabrications for fall. You will see a lot of items that look inspired by pajamas and nightgowns. Lace will stay very prominent through the end of 2016.
- What do you think about very fitted dresses and tops? Will this look be big for fall?
I see a lot of both extremes. There are definitely a lot of relaxed shapes for spring/summer and more fitted silhouettes for fall upcoming.
- Would you say Yigal’s F/W 2016 collection borders on classic, classic with a twist or edgy?
Yigal Azrouel stands alone when it comes to his signature aesthetic. To describe the collection as “classic” would wrongfully imply that his collection is “safe or boring,” yet it is timeless and manages to look hot off the runway after many years of wear, and long after its original debut. This has led to its global reputation of being the only perfect fashion investment collection by many fashion directors, boutique owners, and designer fashion buyers.
Personally, I characterize Yigal’s signature look and collection vibe to be modern, cutting-edge, luxurious everyday clothes. He uniquely differentiates himself by creating a collection that’s both cutting-edge and cozy.
Here’s what Yigal had to say:
- Do you have a signature piece in your collection?
Our signature motorcycle jacket is refined each season in new fabrications combined with leather details and inspired by the season’s collection. I also produce limited edition, lightweight cashmere modal scarves in Italy each season with custom graphics, prints, and artwork, some of which are personal photographs and portraits- which have become a great collector’s piece or travel piece.
- What would you say about your collection? Are you bringing back looks from decades ago and introducing new looks?
I don’t like to look back. My process is about experimenting, and it always starts with the fabric. Some silhouettes evolve from past ones as they are core to our customer and signature to my collection like our structured dresses. But I start with the development of unique fabrics and drape on a model or form to build out each collection. I’m inspired by the different textures and the shape that comes as a result of them.
Thank you, Gretchen and Yigal for sharing their thoughts and tips with us!
XOXO,
