I love Gucci for walking the delicate line between the classic and haute couture. I love their daring, bold, yet sophisticated aesthetic. And yet, this season’s Gucci lineup shows us that even our icons can let us down. Sigh. 2017, I thought you were going to do us one better than 2016!!
The latest designs are at once less haute and more… not. Sorry for the terrible pun, but the situation kinda deserves it.
Let’s take a look at the worst offenders:
Snake-Print Pleated Midi Skirt
First, take a look at that title. The midi look is in, and I think pleats give it a classy, Jackie-O air. But the snakes coiling around those poor delicate flowers create a mismatched hodge-podge. They’re taking the garden theme too literally. And no one should have to pay $1500 for a pattern I can just cut out from my grandmother’s curtains.
GG Wool And Print Silk Reversible Cardigan
The holidays are over, no? Then why do they insist women parade around in the ugly sweater party winner of the year? Don’t get me started on the other side – it’s as if Eden were a nightmare. Do the serpentine away from this one!
Lace-Trimmed Neck-tie Cotton Shirt
Again, I think tie neck blouses add a classic flair. But the neck doily has to go. The overall look is less sweet, more Mad-Hatter tea party. I bet I can find a better way for you to spend $900.
