Boston Voyager interview featuring Betsy Brown of popular high end fashion blog, A Few Goody Gumdrops

Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsy Brown.

Betsy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m an upscale designer fashion blogger. I started my first career as a speech and language pathologist. I obtained a masters degree and did this for many years. My passion has always been designer clothes, bags, shoes, and jewelry. I left my job in speech when I had my first child and I knew I needed to focus on something else that interested me. I decided to start my fashion blog A Few Goody Gumdrops.

That was quite an undertaking as I had no idea what I was doing. Every time I learned something, there was something new to learn. I became so frustrated but kept plugging away. I’ve changed the look of my blog at least five times keeping up with the new looks. My inspiration comes from my daughter who has incredible taste and style.

I wrote daily blog posts about the latest trends and fashion-forward style. I don’t post as often as I am so involved with Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest.

I’m often asked who my favorite designers are. To date, they are The Row, Prada, Gucci, Balenciaga, Sacia, Fendi, Helmut Lang, and Loewe. I’m dying for a pair of Louis Vuitton sneakers.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My struggles were learning new aspects of the blog which I’m still doing today. Everything is always changing. I even erased most of my blog one day. That was a great day! I was almost out of my mind.

I would tell anyone starting out be patient and ask bloggers for help when you need it. Fashion blogger groups are the best and I’ve learned the most from these groups. I’ve also reached out to professionals for help in my field. There are times it gets harder than easier. I’m fairly comfortable with what am doing, and the results have definitely paid off. Blogging is no easy task and involves a tremendous amount of time.

Please tell us about Business Fashion Blogger.
I’m known for writing about upscale fashion designers, styles, and trends. I haven’t come across many bloggers who are writing in this category. That’s what I know best and I try to write about pieces that I own and would wear. I’ve been asked to write about less expensive fashion looks. I try and do this from time to time writing about edgy fashion designs which I also love wearing myself. My look is inspired by chic, fashion-forward and edgy fashion designers.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Be passionate about what you are doing. Be inspired by what you’re doing. Love what you’re doing and if you don’t find another field which suits you better.
