After the festive season, we all want our homes to look spotless. What’s more, it simply doesn’t feel right entering the new year with your home looking disorganized. However, there is always the tendency to procrastinate; tidying the carpets, cleaning the windows, and taking care of the gutters, just to mention a few. These chores may not be fun, but they need to be done. Do you dread the thought of cleaning up after the holiday period is over? The following holiday clean up tips should help.
Clean your walls and kitchen ceilings
You may be wondering if cleaning your walls is necessary, but don’t worry; there is no need to wipe down every inch of your wall. Only pay attention to the areas that have been stained the most. If you did a lot of holiday cooking, you might have noticed traces of moisture and smoke covering portions of your walls and ceiling.
Prepare a cleaning mixture of soap and warm water and wipe down your walls and ceiling with a sponge. Next, rinse with warm water, and voila! Clean as new!
You might even joke to your friends that you need the services of pressure washing experts to get the larger areas of your walls clean after your Holiday dinner party!
Next, clean and organize your pantry; take the time to remove everything from your pantry and clean the shelves. It’s a lot of work, but certainly has to be done. Also, don’t forget to vacuum the floor and rearrange everything. A post holiday clean up to your pantry will help you identify and get rid of spoilt or expired food as well as the food you do not want anymore.
Clean your rugs and furniture covers
If you hosted a lot of guests during the holidays, the chances are that your floor rugs have taken a lot of pressure. You can take them to the dry cleaners along with your furniture covers and curtains where necessary.
Also, if you own a junk drawer, give it the same treatment you gave your pantry. Take the time to clean and reorganize. You can reduce your cleaning workload by covering your shelves with papers or a shelf liner during the holidays. This will make holiday clean up a lot easier.
Prepare your home for the rough weather
Unfortunately, the unforgiving winter weather does not end with the holiday clean up season, and your building’s resolve may be tested along the way by rough weather. As such, you need to make adequate preparations for any harsh conditions.
Start by cleaning out your gutters thoroughly and ensure that you reattach all loose bits and pieces. Also, take the time to inspect which areas of your roof need fixing, as these can send cold air seeping into your home.
After cleaning your windows, weather-strip them along with the exterior parts of your doors. Doing this will also ensure that warm air remains locked inside your home. That way your guests will stay warm during your dinner parties!
Because it can be very hard to predict what the winter will come with, always ensure that you are well prepared for emergencies—for example, stock up on essential drinks, food, and toiletries.
That holiday clean up might feel like a lot of work, but the new year is coming and that’s something we can all look forward to!
XOXO,
